Meir Pichhadze

Meir Pichhadze was born in 1955 in Georgia. He has emerged as one the most prominent and leading painters in Israel. His work was featured in several exhibitions at key galleries and museums, including at the Hezi Cohen Gallery, which represents the artist’s estate.

Pichhadze initiated his art journey when together with his sister he began taking lessons with the sculptor Razu Ramishvili.

In 1973 he immigrated to Israel with his family, where his unique style of painting took form, notably influenced by Georgian painter Nico Pirosmani and iconic Russian painters.

In 1983 he began studying at the Kalisher art college in Tel Aviv. His work was primarily influenced by post-modern artists such as David Sela, producing figurative and abstract paintings, with geometric and organic forms in “industrial” technique and color.

In the mid -1990’s, Pichhadze lived both in New York and Tel-Aviv. During his stay in New York City he initiated painting images based on old family photographs from his childhood a theme he would practice up until his premature death in 2010.
